About ICCCI 关于印城华夏文化中心

The Indianapolis Chinese Community Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit community organization registered in Indiana since 1995, and the largest Chinese American community center in Central Indiana.

Who we are 简介

ICCCI members share a passion for the Chinese language and culture and contribute to a diverse local community through education and cultural activities. ICCCI has two parts: the Chinese School and the Cultural Activity Group.

ICCCI Chinese School offers weekly Chinese language and culture classes to more than 300 students of many backgrounds, adults and school-age children alike. The Cultural Activity Group includes the lion and dragon dance team, the Chinese orchestra, the choir, tennis, Chinese martial arts and Taiji.

Our groups perform at the Indy 500 Parade, the International Festival of Indiana, the Indianapolis Chinese Festival and the Carmel International Arts Festival, and our media team shares Chinese culture through social media, print and public events.

Our history 历史

In 1994, Kit Yong, an immigrant from Singapore, could not find a Mandarin class for his children in Indianapolis, so he started one. With Suju Li, an immigrant from China, three families with four students began meeting on Friday evenings at Forest Glen Elementary School in Lawrence Township.

The Forest Glen Chinese Class opened on January 20, 1995 with nine students, and held its first Chinese New Year celebration in a classroom that February. On October 23, 1995, ICCCI was incorporated as a non-profit with parent volunteers on the board. Its mission soon grew to include non-Chinese-speaking families and to promote Chinese culture across Indianapolis.

Today ICCCI is still run by parent volunteers, and the can-do spirit of its founders has made it the largest Chinese community center in Central Indiana.
